Aging in diversity – perspectives of LGBTIQ* sensitive care

Due to the increased frequency of childlessness or less support from their family of origin, many LGBTIQ* people are particularly dependent on professional services for the elderly in old age. However, many LGBTIQ* people are skeptical about conventional services for the elderly. If queer seniors are dependent on a nursing home, for example, they increasingly withdraw there or even remain invisible.

People often keep their own identities hidden for fear of rejection. It is therefore not surprising that many employees in care and nursing facilities believe that they do not know any LGBTIQ* residents or customers and therefore do not offer any special services. Elderly care facilities should therefore create a good environment in which LGBTIQ* people can finally experience what they have been denied for decades: acceptance and equal treatment.

Approaches are presented on how care facilities can prepare for LGBTIQ* people and how LGBTIQ* people in need of care can find queer-sensitive care facilities and what they can expect there.

Target group: The event is aimed at professionals from care facilities and anyone else who is interested.
Moderation: Donna Dreamatic Davis
