Berliner CSD e. V. laments loss of 200,000 euros in sponsorship money: “There will always be Berlin Pride!”
Just before the start of Pride season, Berlin Pride (Berliner CSD e. V.) is facing an existential challenge: Several (international) companies have significantly scaled back their support for Berlin Pride. This development is linked to current political trends, societal attitudes towards the queer community, and the broader economic situation. As a result, around €200,000 in expected funding is missing.
Despite this massive financial shortfall, one thing is certain: Berlin Pride 2025 will take place – defiant, loud, and visible. “Our opponents may hope we become smaller, quieter, or even invisible. The opposite will happen. Now more than ever, it’s crucial to take up space. That’s why there will always be a Berlin Pride,” emphasizes Marcel Voges, board member of Berliner CSD e. V.
The fact that sponsors are pulling out while queer rights are under increasing pressure worldwide is, however, a troubling signal. It reveals who truly stands with the community. But the organizers refuse to be deterred. Instead, Berlin Pride is calling on the community and allies to act: A donation campaign launched today aims to help fill the funding gap.
“We can somehow manage to fund this year’s CSD – but that won’t be sustainable in the long run,” explains Thomas Hoffmann, board member of Berliner CSD e. V. “Without additional support, it’s precisely those services that ensure the CSD is truly accessible to all – and that form the core of our political mission – that are at risk: barrier-free access, stage programming at the final rally, impactful political campaigns, and Pride Month events. Every donation helps secure these vital projects.”

The motto of this year’s CSD in Berlin is “Never silent again” – a motto that takes on particular significance in light of the current situation. The organizers are determined not only to successfully implement CSD 2025, but also to send a clear signal against social regression.
“CSDs in Germany stand for diversity, democracy and human rights. We all come together on these days – regardless of whether I identify as trans*, gay, lesbian, bisexual or straight. Religion or skin color don’t matter either. It concerns us all when these safe spaces come under threat,” adds Monique King, Advisory Board Member for Lesbian Visibility at Berliner CSD e. V.
