General Assembly of the Berliner CSD e. V. 2024: Association leaves conflicts behind and unanimously decides on the non-profit status of the association

The Berliner CSD e. V. together with wirBERLIN gGmbH presented the Green Rainbow Award for the most sustainable float of the Berlin CSD 2024 on October 4, 2024 in the Rotes Rathaus. The winner is Deloitte GmbH Wirtschaftsprüfungsgesellschaft, which impressed the high-caliber jury with its holistic concept for avoiding emissions and reusing the materials used.

The prize was presented by the Green Rainbow Award jury. This included Britta Behrendt, State Secretary for Climate Protection and the Environment, Christopher Schriner, District Councillor of the Mitte District Office, Meike Al-Habash, Head of the Zero Waste Agency, Anne Sebald, Managing Director of wirBERLIN gGmbH and Thomas Hoffmann, Member of the Board of the Berliner CSD e. V..

Deloitte sensitized the participants to sustainable travel and obliged them to use low-CO2 or neutral means of transport when traveling. Unavoidable emissions were offset. The truck tarpaulins used to decorate the vehicles were processed into bags. Participants were also provided with high-quality reusable cups and durable T-shirts made from organic cotton. Deloitte is also doing justice to the social component of sustainability: the company is involved in political education and a queer youth network with a fundraising campaign.

No less impressive were the other inspiring measures of the other applicants for the Green Rainbow Award, which was presented for the first time this year. For the first time, a purely electrically powered truck took part in the Berlin CSD. In another truck, the audio and lighting system was powered by rechargeable batteries and supported by solar cells on the roof. The reuse or recycling of the truck tarpaulins used was also implemented by many participants in the competition. The competition for the most sustainable company outfit produced particularly creative results. In general, waste separation, returnable bottles, reusable cups and the avoidance of unnecessary give-aways were already a matter of course for most float operators at this year’s CSD.

Together with the environmental initiative wirBERLIN gGmbH, the Berliner CSD e. V. implemented numerous measures to improve environmental protection and waste avoidance at this year’s CSD. In addition to the Green Rainbow Award, these include a communication and awareness-raising campaign for visitors and float operators, the installation of drinking water stations, an anti-littering area and the deployment of waste ambassadors at the CSD as well as an after-CSD cleanup to clean the Tiergarten after the CSD.
