Now More Than Ever: Why Duolingo Is Supporting Berlin Pride

At a time when many companies are stepping away from queer events, it’s more important than ever to take a stand. That’s why Duolingo is intentionally joining this year’s Berlin Pride as a main sponsor.
The political and social climate has changed. Especially in the U.S., where Duolingo is headquartered, many companies are withdrawing their support for Pride events—often out of fear of political backlash or economic consequences. This trend is also visible in Germany: Almost all Pride events across the country are reporting a drop in sponsorships, putting the parades themselves at risk.
At Duolingo, diversity isn’t a trend—it’s something we live every day. And it’s reflected in our language courses too, with characters of different backgrounds, gender identities, and sexual orientations. We believe language has the power to connect people and break down barriers.
Our involvement in Berlin Pride is a clear statement: We stand with the LGBTQIA+ community—not just when it’s easy, but especially when it’s not. Because visibility, solidarity, and support matter most when progress is under threat.
We’re proud to be part of this year’s CSD under the motto “Never Silent Again” and to stand together for an open and inclusive society.
Duolingo will also be rolling through the streets of Berlin with its own parade truck. And it shouldn’t be hard to spot: It’s green, loud, and features a dancing owl. Duo can’t wait to celebrate with you! 🦉
