Queer Up the Park!

—–

Everyday in Berlin we move through manmade spaces, which nonetheless do not seem to be made for us. Nature, however, is far more queer than we can imagine — though it seems at first glance that even places such as parks, which are created actively through and for her, are tailored towards a specific kind of existence. They are in and of themselves made for an by a heteronormative society. But we’re here, we’re queer, and we can transform through and by engaging with nature!

With this thought and this month in mind, we invite you to Treptower park in order to make this idea a reality. Parks are public places where nature and society cross pass, and we want to use this interaction in order to express ourselves and ‘queer up’ a space within it.

What does this even mean for us as queer people, who are just as diverse as the natural environment around us? We want to go on a journey to discover this together, through play, creativity and reflection. We will collect natural materials together and use them to interact with and transform nature as well as the manmade through land art — trying to make it our own. We are excited to see you and to be creative, playful and reflective with you while trying to make a little piece of our familiar park a little bit more queer — whatever that may mean!
