CSD member Helmut Metzner is the new chairman of the federal Magnus Hirschfeld foundation

The board of trustees of the Bundesstiftung Magnus Hirschfeld elected Helmut Metzner this Thursday to be the new managing board of the foundation.

Federal Minister of Justice Dr. Marco Buschmann (FDP) announced this on Friday. Jörg Litwinschuh-Barthel, the previous and universally popular board member, did not want to have to apply for the post he first created after ten years in office and had resigned from office in November 2021.

“I am pleased that with the election of Helmut Metzner as the new Executive Board, we have restored the Federal Foundation’s full capacity to act and created the conditions for successful foundation work in line with the importance of the Magnus Hirschfeld Federal Foundation,” said Buschmann. The Minister wished the elected person every success in his work at the Foundation and thanked the members of the Board of Trustees for their commitment during the long selection process.
The foundation’s board of trustees had already shortlisted Metzner last fall, but then decided in favor of Gero Bauer, the managing director of the Center for Gender and Diversity Research at the University of Tübingen. Bauer announced in January that he would not be taking up the post for personal reasons.
