Together for more sustainability at the Berlin CSD
Garbage, environmental destruction and emissions are problems from which political demonstrations like the Berlin CSD are not exempt. In 2022, for example, the Berliner Stadtreinigung removed a whole 360 cubic meters of trash – mostly bottles and packaging – from our demonstration route. While our own catering already relies entirely on environmentally friendly packaging and reusable cups, the drinks brought by participants and illegal street vending in particular contribute to this problem. This is where we want to start this year: Not only should illegal street vending be curbed, but we are also currently discussing a ban on glass containers in the area of the closing rally with the city of Berlin. In addition, information materials, posters and social media will be used to better inform participants to dispose of their trash and especially their bottles properly or to take them home again. In order to ensure proper disposal, we will increase the capacity of the trash receptacles we set up by 40% this year.
Sensibilisierung ist auch beim Schutz der Berliner Grünflächen gefragt: Jedes Jahr werden große Teile des Tiergartens und anderer Grünflächen z. B. durch Wildpinkler stark belastet oder sogar zerstört. Besonders betroffene Bereiche wollen wir in diesem Jahr abzäunen. Außerdem möchten wir die Toilettenkapazität signifikant erhöhen. Damit werden in diesem Jahr bereits viele kurzfristige Maßnahmen umgesetzt, die insbesondere die Müllproblematik und den Schutz der Grünflächen adressieren. Ein mindestens ebenso wichtiges Anliegen ist die Reduzierung – und langfristig auch vollständige Vermeidung – der durch unsere Demonstration verursachten CO2-Emissionen, zum Beispiel durch die an der Demonstration teilnehmenden Fahrzeuge. Mit entsprechenden Anreizen hoffen wir, schon in wenigen Jahren komplett auf konventionell betriebene Lkw und Aggregate verzichten zu können. Damit kommen wir der CO2-neutralen Zukunft unserer Demonstration einen großen Schritt näher.
